GD04 Phantom Aria went live on April 25, 2026 as the fourth main booster for the Gundam Card Game. Six weeks in, Bandai's official featured deck lineup highlights four archetypes leading the format: Minerva Squad, Banshee Norn, Crossbone, and Vulture. Two more sets ship before August, and the World Championships 26-27 store qualifier cycle is already underway.

Key facts:
  • GD04 Phantom Aria released April 25, 2026, adding Victory Gundam (Blue), Turn A Gundam (White), and Witch from Mercury characters (Green)
  • Four official featured decks define the current format: Minerva Squad (P/R), Banshee Norn (B/W), Crossbone (R/G), Vulture (P/W)
  • ST10 Generation Pulse and EB01 Eternal Nexus both drop June 27, 2026 (G Generation Eternal collaboration)
  • GD05 Freedom Ascension hits July 25, 2026 as the 1st Anniversary set, featuring Strike Freedom and Shining Gundam
  • The game crossed 500 million cards shipped worldwide and the World Championships 26-27 cycle is running through store-level qualifiers
  • Beginner's Battle 2026 Season 2 runs from April 8 to July 7 at participating shops, with a parallel "GD03-076 Freedom Gundam (METEOR)" card as a participation prize

The four featured archetypes

Bandai's official deck showcase puts four archetypes forward as the GD04 reference builds. These are the recommended baselines from the publisher, so they reflect what the design team expects to see on the table rather than aggregated tournament data. Real placement numbers from Beginner's Battle and the World Championships qualifier cycle will start refining this list over the next two months.

DeckColorsSeriesSetsNotes
Minerva Squad Purple/Red Destiny Gundam ST09 + GD04 Destiny-led shell, aggressive squad pressure with command support
Banshee Norn Blue/White Unicorn Gundam variant GD04 Rampaging Banshee Norn package, control with explosive midgame swings
Crossbone Red/Green Crossbone Gundam GD04 Strategic hybrid, blends aggressive pressure with resource development
Vulture Purple/White G Gundam adjacents GD04 Trash-fueled mechanics, recursion and graveyard payoff lines

Minerva Squad leans on the Destiny Gundam shell and ST09's squad support, with GD04 reinforcement giving the deck stronger midgame swings. The Purple/Red color pair has historically been the format's aggressive baseline.

Banshee Norn is the Unicorn Gundam line's Blue/White variant, using rampaging-mode triggers for explosive turns. Control players tend to gravitate here for the toolbox spell suite.

Crossbone in Red/Green plays a hybrid game: pressure early, build resources in the middle, finish with bigger units. It rewards careful sequencing.

Vulture Purple/White is the format's recursion shell. Its mechanics fuel themselves from the trash, which makes it the deck most affected by graveyard hate cards from the broader card pool.

GD04 and the colors it boosted

Phantom Aria introduced new Mobile Suit characters from three series: Victory Gundam fills out the Blue card pool, Turn A Gundam adds White, and Witch from Mercury adds Green. That distribution explains why Blue/White (Banshee Norn) and Red/Green (Crossbone) are in the featured lineup. Each pair pulls from one of GD04's two newly reinforced colors.

Purple/Red (Minerva Squad) and Purple/White (Vulture) lean more on existing card pool support from earlier sets, with GD04 adding tactical extensions rather than full new shells.

Set roadmap through summer 2026

SetNameReleaseStatusHighlights
GD04 Phantom Aria April 25, 2026 Current set Victory Gundam (Blue), Turn A Gundam (White), Witch from Mercury (Green)
ST10 Generation Pulse June 27, 2026 Upcoming SD Gundam G Generation Eternal starter, multiplayer focus
EB01 Eternal Nexus June 27, 2026 Upcoming Extra Booster paired with ST10 launch
GD05 Freedom Ascension July 25, 2026 Upcoming 1st Anniversary set, Strike Freedom (Blue), Shining Gundam (White), Domon Kasshu
SC01 Freedom Ascension Custom Deck Box July 25, 2026 Upcoming 125 reprints + 8 GD05 packs + bonus EX cards

June 27 is a double drop: ST10 Generation Pulse is a starter deck themed around SD Gundam G Generation Eternal, paired with EB01 Eternal Nexus as the first Extra Booster of the year. Both add multiplayer-focused cards that don't necessarily land in tier 1 competitive lists but expand format diversity.

July 25 is the bigger event. GD05 Freedom Ascension is the 1st Anniversary set, headlined by Strike Freedom (Blue) from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny and Shining Gundam plus Domon Kasshu (White) from Mobile Fighter G Gundam. The "Shining Finger" command card is the most-previewed piece. Whether GD05 displaces any of the current four featured archetypes is the first big shift to watch this summer.

What to watch through the rest of 2026

Three things to track over the next two months as the GD04 format settles and GD05 approaches.

  • Whether Crossbone Red/Green delivers on its hybrid promise or gets squeezed between aggressive Minerva builds and Banshee Norn's late game
  • How Vulture's trash-recursion play handles increased graveyard hate from the broader card pool and the upcoming sets
  • Whether Strike Freedom from GD05 introduces a new Blue shell that displaces Banshee Norn at the top of the format

Tournament results from the Beginner's Battle 2026 Season 2 cycle and early World Championships qualifiers will refine the rankings above. Until those aggregate, Bandai's official featured deck lineup is the most reliable baseline for what the format expects.
